Ocean Healing of New Resources for the Aging-Friendly Industry: Focusing on Elderly Women and Metabolic Syndrome

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the ocean healing program on the metabolic syndrome risk factors of the elderly for five days in a short period of time.

Methods : The subjects of this study were 25 patients who were diagnosed as metabolic syndrome among local people W and T group. The experimental group applied the program for five days intensively, six hours a day, and the applied programs. The items measured were abdominal circumference, blood sugar, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL. Data processing in this study averaged (M) and standard deviation (SD) by item of measurement using SPSS/ver 18.0.
The difference between groups was analyzed by covariance analysis ANCOVA. The significance level was set to ¥á = .05.

Results : Abdominal circumference, blood sugar, triglyceride and total cholesterol were significantly decreased. High density lipoproteins were significantly increased. The decrease in LDL was not statistically significant.

Conclusion : This study showed that the short-term ocean healing complex program applied for 5 days had a positive effect on the risk group of metabolic syndrome in elderly women.
